In Memory of Miriam Harper

Earlier this year we received a donation in memory of a lady called Miriam Harper. Little did we know that a lovely piece of David Lewis history would follow.

In the early 1900’s a gentleman by the name of Thomas Eacott generated all of David Lewis’s electricity from his engine house in the grounds. At the same time a lady called Agnes used to visit her brother Cecil Summers, one of our very first residents. Agnes and Thomas met and later married. At the time staff lived on site, Agnes and Thomas’s home was the building now known as Rowan House. In 1915 they had their daughter Miriam who is pictured at the bottom right of the photo. Miriam lived here at david lewis until she was in her 20’s. She had very happy memories of living here at David Lewis, and thanks to her daughter Pamela, we’ve been able to share her story.
